Shirley Lanning was born in Vermillion, South Dakota on May 15, 1934. She was the only daughter of Alfred and Violet Lindquist. Her three brothers, Irving, Donald, and younger brother, David, completed their family. She was raised on a farm and learned how to fish. Her days were filled with chores and school.
She moved to Colorado as a young lady, full of hope and ambition. This is where she settled down, found work, and started a family. She married John D. Lanning and had three children, Joe, Bryan, and Linda. They later divorced.
Shirley began her career as a baker and was first hired by Butternut Bread and retired from King Soopers Bakery. While working and raising a family took most of her time, she also loved to paint her ceramics and go out dancing with her friends. Her love of animals and family grew in her later years where her days were filled playing with her dog, Nemo, and taking care of her grandchildren. Becoming a grandmother and a great grandmother was a joyful completion to her journey.
Shirley is preceded in death by her ex-husband, John D. Lanning, and her son, Bryan D. Lanning. She is survived by her children, Joe M. Lanning, and Linda A Wood; grandsons, Anthony S. Wood, Robert D. Wood, and Eric R. Wood; and several great grandchildren.
