

Shirley Anne Pierce, 86, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, surrounded by family and friends over her final days. An only child, she was born January 27, 1938 in Taylor, Texas to Mabel and Bernard “Hop” Hopkins. She grew up in Texas(Amarillo), Nebraska(Lincoln) and Wyoming, with her family settling down in Casper in 1954. After graduating from Natrona County High School in 1955, Shirley went on to college at the University of Nebraska, graduating with a degree in education in 1959. She was a proud Cornhusker and a committed member and alumni of the Alpha Phi sorority.
Following graduation, she moved to Denver, taught 1st grade, and soon met her husband of 59 years, Robert(“Bob”) Pierce. They married on December 17th, 1960 in Casper, and proceeded to raise two children in Lakewood, where she resided until her passing.
She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a devoted, supportive and loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Armed with an easy smile and sunny disposition, she had an aptitude to make and cultivate strong, lifelong friendships. From grade school on she made and nurtured deep friendships, enjoying a wide circle of lifelong friends that truly enriched and sustained her. She was perpetually talking to a friend on the phone, if not in person. Her social calendar was always full. She was a dedicated volunteer, and for many decades she gave back to her community, being variously and extensively involved in the Junior League of Denver, the Central City Opera Association, the Dumb Friends League and The Gathering Place.
She is survived by her children, Richard(Anwell) and Lynn, and grandchildren Cate and Ava Pierce and Ryan and Devin Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob (2019).
Funeral services for will be held Friday, January 24th, 2025, 1:00 PM at Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion of Reflection, 7777 West 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, Colorado, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate in honor of Shirley to any of the charities she volunteered with: Junior League of Denver, Central City Opera Association, Dumb Friends League or The Gathering Place.
