Sterling Anthony Ward, Jr., otherwise known as “Doc” passed on peacefully at his home in Littleton, CO on April 21, 2022 at 91 years of age. He was surrounded by family who loved, supported and cared for him.
Born to Sterling and Ada in Wortham, TX, Sterling is the second youngest of six Ward children and grew up with eight Tomlinson cousins in Falls County on Tomlinson Hill.
Sterling didn’t have an easy life growing up and experienced hard times but always found a way and was determined to be successful.
He was charismatic, funny, generous, headstrong and had a great spirit. He never met a stranger and was quite the ladies man. He loved to watch boxing, baseball and always rooted for the Dallas Cowboys.
Sterling was a highly sought after phlebotomist as well as a cytology and histology tech. He also assisted in autopsies and studied mortuary science. His pinnacle achievement was being accepted into Walter Reed Hospital’s Armed Forces Institute of Pathology for Medical Photography. He carried the title of “Diener” for many years and worked in several hospitals.
He loved to watch his “stories” and had a whistle you could hear a mile away. His smile was infectious and his laugh would lighten your heart.
His own story, however, was one for the record books.
Sterling was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Verdie and Mae and brother Nathaniel. Survivors include his sisters Geneva Scott and Pearl Ward Bolts; son Daniel Ward and his wife Bridgette Ward along with his two granddaughters Braelyn and Jaida Ward; son Stephen Ward and wife Katrina Ward and grandson Patrick Ward; son William Ward and two grandchildren Davon and Watisha Ward; as well as a host of grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
His funeral service will be Wednesday, April 27th at 2:30pm held at Crown Hill Cemetery and Mortuary; 7777 W. 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge, CO. His service will be officiated by Nirup Alphonse.
