Thomas LeRoy Gloyd, better known as Tom to his family and friends, of Denver, Colorado went home to Glory Monday, January 6, at 4:30 in the morning at the age of ninety-one.

Tom was born at 2:15 the afternoon of February 26, 1928 in Spencer, Iowa. He was the second of nine children born to Gurdon and Thresa Gloyd.

Tom met LaVonne Mae Scholten at the local skating rink there in Northwest Iowa, and they began dating and quickly fell in love the fall of his senior year of high school. They were married on January 11, 1947 in Sheldon, Iowa. They were married for 66 years before the Lord called LaVonne home to heaven.

Tom continued attending classes and graduated from Spencer High School on May 22, 1947. After graduating Tom applied himself to learn the structural trade as an ironworker. He not only became accomplished in his trade, but excelled in leadership as foreman and later as superintendent over large job sites throughout the years, and as an instructor of the trade for Ironworker’s Local Union 24 out of Denver. He was a member of the International Ironworker’s Association for over 65 years.

Tom was devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an elder and board member for over 55 years serving at North Presbyterian Church, Faith Bible Chapel and Faith Bible Chapel South. He was a part of developing and teaching at Faith Bible College. His faith was one of the most important things in his life and he held true to it until the end.

Tom is survived by his children, Suzette (Anthony) Romero, Cindy (Dennis) Connor, Tomi Lavon Samuels, and Bill (Debbie) Gloyd, sisters Alvina, OnaLee, Clara and Pam, nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne, his father and mother, his brothers Gurdon, Ronny, and Larry, and his sister Norma.

There will be a viewing at Crown Hill mortuary on Thursday evening, January 9, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, and a memorial service at Faith Bible Chapel, 6250 Wright Street, Arvada, Colorado at 11:00 am.

The family of Thomas LeRoy Gloyd wish to thank the church family of Faith Bible Chapel South and Faith Bible Chapel for their love and support through the years.

The family suggests a gift to the Alzheimer’s Association online or mail to 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 6060, in lieu of flowers.
