Obituary of Troy Allan Thompson
IN THE CARE OF

Olinger Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery - Crown Hill

Troy Thompson of Arvada, CO passed away on April 24, 2020. He is survived by his mother, Glenna Gitthens, his sister Sheila Turner and her husband Gene Turner, nephew Jason Sands and his daughter Ashlynn Sands, niece Rebeka Jones and her husband Derek Jones, Uncle Jack Mcquain and his wife Pam and family, Uncle Audie McGarvey and family, Aunt Kathy and Mike Ankrom and family, Aunt Debbie and her husband Ron Baumgartner and family. Troy was proceeded in death by his father Don Gitthens and Aunt Debbie McGarvey.

Troy was born on Mother’s Day, May 9, 1963. Troy would share the fact that he was born on Mother’s Day with everyone he met. Having graduated from Arvada West High School in 1981, Troy took a course in industrial maintenance at Warren Tech. After this course, he worked for the Parks and Recreation Department of Arvada. This is where his passion of fixing things began. Troy worked with his Uncle Jack on roofing jobs as well as working at Accent Windows. Troy was knowledgeable in a variety of different trades. This skill set allowed him to start his own handy man business fixing nearly any item in need of repair. Troy also developed a fondness for fixing cars. As many local people of Arvada could attest, Troy was always willing to help those that needed something fixed. Thanks to his drive to serve, Troy made many friends along the way. Each person he met was impacted by Troy. Unlike most of us, he could fix just about anything and laugh while doing it.

Troy loved old hard rock music, making people smile, and fishing with family and friends. Troy taught his younger cousins and the neighborhood kids how to fix a bicycle and bait a hook. Two skills they certainly retain to this day. Troy’s favorite television shows were Gilligan’s Island and The Andy Griffith Show. Troy loved to make green chili for his family and friends and if you were lucky enough, he would teach you how to make it. Although he taught many his recipe, no one could ever make it quite as good as Troy could. Troy was an exceptional human being. He would offer the shirt of his back if someone needed it. Although Troy could be very stubborn at times, he was truly one of the most genuinely caring people one could ever meet. While he will certainly be missed by all, each person who met Troy will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
