Victoria “Vicky” Morse (Quintana), 97, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after a period of declining health.
Victoria was born in Capulin, Colorado, in the San Luis Valley, the ninth of twelve children of Rosabel and Jasper Quintana. She grew up on the family farm, doing her part to keep it running, and often spoke warmly of how blessed she was to have the parents and childhood she did. After graduating from Capulin High School, she left the valley to build her future, working in Denver and beyond. Along the way she lived for a time in Toledo and Chicago with her brother Armando, before returning to Colorado.
She settled in the Denver area to raise her daughter, Rebecca, teaching by example the importance of staying close to family. Her sister Clara and niece Margie helped care for Rebecca while Vicky worked. She built a 22-year career with the Colorado Department of Revenue, retiring in 1988 as a Senior Data Control Coordinator.
In the early 1970s she married Hugh “Hughie” Morse. The two loved road trips across the country, especially to the Northwest and Vancouver, and dinners out with friends and relatives. After Hughie’s passing in 1993, Vicky kept traveling, on senior trips with Clara and on family vacations to California, New Mexico, and the Black Hills. She was a very good traveling companion. In retirement she volunteered at her neighborhood polling place on election day. She and Clara took line dancing and painting classes at the Barnum Park Senior Center, where they also played pool. They were never content to stay home.
In 2006 she moved to Thornton, a few blocks from Rebecca and her family. Her sister Angela later joined her there, and for many years the two prayed together, kept each other company, and took turns caring for one another.
Victoria had always had a very close and loving relationship with her grandchildren. Later, Victoria’s house was where the great-grandchildren often played and had so much fun over the years with their “Grandma Vicky” and “Aunt Angie”. It was normal and wonderful to regularly have all four generations of family together and enjoying each other’s company.
Victoria is survived by her daughter, Rebecca; son-in-law, Chuck; grandchildren, Andria, Charles, and Nikki; great-grandchildren, Ariana, Dorian, Santino, and Alayah; sister, Clara; brothers, Armando and Jasper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie; her parents; her sisters, Sister Jovita, Eva, Josie, Filomena, Angela, and Matilda; and her brothers, Elijio and Adan.
The Liturgy of the Word will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, on October 12, 2026, at 10:00am. The committal service will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery at 11:00am with a reception starting at 11:30am and ending at 1:30pm.
