Bill came into the world on February 28, 1934. He first greeted the world in Los Angeles, California at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He grew up in Monrovia, CA & greater Los Angeles and Phoenix, AZ. He was the son of Carl and Christine Siegrist and was raised with two sisters, Caroline and Patricia.
Though he wasn’t an overtly outgoing child, he did manage to be involved in a number of different areas. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and earned an Eagle Scout badge.
He graduated from Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School in 1953 where he enjoyed shop class. He also worked as a "Hot Shot" fire fighter on California forest fires. He enjoyed fixing up and remodeling a 1932 Ford Roadster.
Bill attended Pasadena City College and studied art at Arizona State University in Tempe. Bill’s favorite classes in college were contemporary art. Bill was an excellent artist, even assisting the professors in teaching art classes.
He worked as ski patrolman at Arizona Snowbowl in Flagstaff, AZ; and later worked as a ski official at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California.
He was often cautious and careful about the people with whom he became close. There had to be some kind of spark for a relationship to develop. But there were more than sparks, there was magic when Bill met Barbara Shadle.
The couple exchanged vows at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa, on December 10, 1971. This marked the beginning of their time together as a family. He took the responsibility of marriage to heart, giving it his total commitment.
His primary occupation was working as a graphic designer at U. S. Gypsum in Chicago and was Art Director for Whitaker-Guernsey Studio in Chicago and then as a free lance artist for several years before retiring.
Bill always tried to set aside a certain amount of time for working on his hobbies. Some of these hobbies included cooking, yard work, camping, and was a supernumerary for 1 season at Opera Colorado. He very much enjoyed downhill skiing, cross country skiing, water skiing, and was a photographer for a coffee table book about Canadian-American Challenge Cup auto racing. He also enjoyed watching auto racing and pro football. During retirement, Bill pursued his love of cars and worked part-time at Bandimere Speedway.
Bill Siegrist left us on March 26, 2011. He passed away at home in Denver, Colorado. He was 77 years old. The cause of death was natural causes. He and Barbara enjoyed all the previous day, out running errands around town and out for lunch. He is survived by wife, Barbara, aunt Kathleen Whitehead, brother-in-law Mike Mullins, nephews and nieces; Steve, Mike, Judy and Cathy and numerous great nephews and nieces. Services were handled by Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery.
