

Walton Byron Colwell, Jr passed away August 14, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene, their children Byron, Patricia (Rand), Jean (Rick), and Cristina (Arik). Son, Clifford, predeceased him in death. Walt is also survived by his granddaughters,
Corinne, Leslie, Alayna, Brianna, and Paulina.
Walt was born in Ely Nevada September 7, 1919. He grew up in Colorado Springs and attended Colorado College and the University of Colorado, Boulder. He graduated from CU with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1943. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant as Flight Engineer from Yale University U S A F Program in 1944. He served in the Pacific Theater for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII.
Walt and Irene were married Sept 12, 1946 in Brigham City , Utah. They lived in Columbia, South America for several years and adopted their son, Clifford, there. They designed and built their home in Wheat Ridge and have lived there for 46 years.
Walt spent his professional career as a civil engineer in Denver. He worked mostly on water treatment and sewage projects. He was the Foothills Tunnel Project Engineer and supervised the preliminary design for the Glenwood Canyon Highway Project.
Walt enjoyed woodworking and carving, camping and hiking. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. After retirement, he and Irene enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Copper Canyon, (Mexico), and Central America.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012, 2 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery, 29th and Wadsworth, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
