Willa Mae married Richard Hughes on December 3, 1949. Together, Richard and Willa Mae had three sons—Daniel, Dennis (deceased), and David. Willa Mae later married her second husband, John Martinez.
A housewife and mother, Willa Mae found joy in the simple, sustaining rhythms of life. Her appreciation for the world showed in her love of travel, and her warmth was often shared around a good meal. She valued health and perseverance, walking four miles a day, bowling and she expressed her creativity through ceramics.
Willa Mae is survived by her sons Daniel and David; her daughter-in-law Kathe; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
Willa Mae will be remembered for the life she built, the family she loved and friends she cherished..
A graveside service will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cem, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, on June 22, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
