August 11, 1926 – September 14, 2021
Yao was born in Henan, a province in the middle of China. Although it was an era of warlords and looming Japanese invasion, she was raised in a peaceful suburb close to the border of Henan and Anhui provinces. Yao was the eldest of two children. At her age of 19, she met Lien Chu Guo, a military officer stationed in her town. They were married when China was defending against Japanese invasion.
After the war with Japan ended, the Chinese Civil War erupted and Lien lost his right leg in battle. Yao stayed close to him and cared for him faithfully. After two years, they finally escaped communist Red China and arrived in Hong Kong where Yao became a Christian. In 1950, both moved to Taiwan. In order to earn a living, Yao transformed her small living room into production lines for paper kites and lanterns. Years later, she gave birth to James, Marie, then CG. All three completed their college educations in Taiwan.
In 1988, Yao and Lien immigrated to the United States to be closer to family. Yao cared dearly for her six grandchildren. She led a fulfilling and happy life with her family of four generations.
Yao was preceded in death by Lien. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
