Anita Guzman, age 96 of White Lake, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the quiet comfort of her own bed. During the last ten years of her life she was living with her and lovingly cared for by her daughter Olga. Anita Cruz was born February 9th, 1917 in Mexico City, Mexico to Juan and Guadalupe. Her mother died when Anita was nine years old, so she began working at a ribbon factory to help support her 4 brothers and sisters. When she was 18 she met and married the love of her life, Rodolfo Guzman. The couple had five children in Mexico, then five more in Michigan after seeking a better life in the early 1950's by moving to Detroit to work for Ford Motor Company. She loved to dance, she loved her church, and she loved to play bingo, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family. When Anita lost her husband she began traveling around the world with her daughters, visiting Italy, England, Israel, Hawaii, France and Spain, and several trips to her native Mexico to visit family and friends. She was incredibly lively, and was loved by all who met her. Beloved wife of the late Rodolfo, loving mother of Sylvia (Steve) Olga, Marci (Richard), Rodolfo (Gail), Sonia (Brian) Magdalena (Greg), Sandra (John) and Michael, and the late Anna, cherished grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 7. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. (she will lie in state at 10:00 a.m) on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Patrick Church, 9086 Hutchins Rd., White Lake. Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8 p.m. at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black and Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Rd., White Lake. A luncheon will be held following the funeral mass at White Oaks Golf Course, 991 North WIlliams Lake Rd. in White Lake. Memorial donations may be made to the White Lake Good Fellows.
