

Antoinette (née Kijek) Kolo (Kolodziejczyk) was born August 12, 1923 in Hamtramck to Peter and Mary Kijek, and passed away July 3, 2022 in West Bloomfield, at the age of 98. Beloved wife of the late Henry John Kolo, of West Bloomfield. Predeceased by four brothers and seven younger sisters. She met the love of her life and future husband of seventy two years at a wedding. Antoinette is survived by her children: Robert (the late Sharon) Kolo; Donna Kolo; and Anthony Kolo. Loving grandmother of: Tracie (Robert) Kreger; Tammie (Chris) Diton; Robert (Sarah) Kolo; Blake (Natalie) Kolo; Brandon (Carly) Kolo; Dustin (Katie) Kolo; Brittany Mehrman; Shane (Daniel) Kolo; Anthony (Brittany) Kolo and Dakota (Stephanie) Kolo. Great-grandmother to twenty-four great-grandchildren, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Special thoughts and gratitude are also extended to Donna Johnston who provided Antoinette with loving care in her final months.
Antoinette was the Matriarch of her family. She was beloved by her entire family for her generosity and commitment to family gatherings and traditions. Antoinette’s devotion to her husband was a wonderful example to all who knew her. She was particularly admired for her wit and humor. Antoinette was a Master at Bingo and enjoyed family vacations at Mullett Lake where she distinguished herself in preparation of the daily catch. Antoinette was a storyteller who would recount memories at family gatherings. She particularly enjoyed sharing stories of the time she and Henry spent living in Paris France in the mid-1970’s.
Those wishing to pay their last respects to Antoinette may do so on Sunday, July 10, 2022 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road, White Lake. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with the In State beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4300 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield. A graveside service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 W. 10 Mile Road, Southfield. A reception celebrating Antoinette’s life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Antoinette and Henry’s honor to the Father Solanus Casey Center, 1780 Mount Elliott Street, Detroit, or to the National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods, 7078 M-68, Indian River.
