Barbara Arbaugh—known to many as “BarbiArby,” and lovingly called “BaBaAnn” by her husband—passed away on May 6, 2026, in West Bloomfield, MI at the age of 68. To be honest, she’d probably be annoyed we’re making such a fuss, but she was simply too special not to celebrate.
Born in West Bloomfield to Bud and Thelma Martin, Barb was a Michigan girl through and through. As her younger self, she spent her summers rounding the bases with her “Oops” softball team and her winters at the bowling alley with friends. She was a lifelong hunter of the next great card game, frequently gathering with her “lady friends” for good food, dominoes, and cards.
It was an impromptu game of Euchre that led her to her husband, David Arbaugh. Over the years, Barb explored many passions: she worked as a licensed nail tech and later became a Master Gardener, a skill she used to transform their backyard in Troy into a true oasis. She also became an accomplished quilter, always finding a "reason" to stitch together a masterpiece to gift to a friend or family member. Her quilts weren't just blankets; they were works of art.
Barb lived for the journey. Whether it was a quick trip to a new Michigan landmark or exploring North Carolina—where she and David lived for nine years—she took great pride in packing the basics and hitting the road. David fondly called these trips “Venturing with the BaBaAnn.” She always had some commentary from the passenger seat once proclaiming “moo-moo, lama-lama” for a farmers field with you guessed it; cows and lamas
A devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers, Barb never lost her love for the diamond. After her own playing days ended, she moved to the bleachers to become the #1 fan for David’s softball teams, most recently with the Carolina Senior Sports Association.
Barb was fiercely passionate about her family. She is survived by her sister, Pat (Mark) Orler; her step-children, Susan Motschenbacher and Ryan Arbaugh; and her beloved dog, JoJo. A true Corgi lover, Barb is now reunited with the many members of the Martin family who went before her—likely catching them up on the latest stories of life, love, and family.
In keeping with her spirit, we are avoiding a somber funeral. Instead, a celebration of life will be held in the near future (date and location to be determined). David would love for you to prepare your best “BarbiArby” stories; Barb was far too colorful not to have left you with at least one great one.
In her memory, please skip the flowers. Instead, consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. Barb fought this disease with incredible bravery for over six years. A donation in her name would honor both her fight and the husband who stood steadfastly by her side until the very end.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Christian Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 521 E. Hamilin Rd., Rochester Hills, Michigan
