OBITUARY

Benjamin Chambers

May 13, 1937May 18, 2019

Benjamin Chambers, age 82, of White Lake, Michigan, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Ben is survived by his wife Elizabeth Joan, his children, Benjamin (Mary), Julia (Donald), Elizabeth Becky (Todd), Alexander (Jennifer), and his grandchildren, Ellen, Avery, Ellis, Kelly, Nolan, Kate and Isla. Ben leaves behind many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (née Hendrie) and Benjamin Chambers, and his sisters, Helen (Jerry), Peggy (James) and Winnie.

Ben was first and foremost a family man of great Catholic faith. His love for family and God was powerful and unwavering. He attended St. Theresa High School in Detroit, where he was an impressive athlete, playing baseball and receiving the All-City, All-State award for football while coached by his mentor, George Dufour. He later played football at Michigan State University under celebrated coach, Duffy Daugherty. Afterward, Ben became a proud member of the IBEW Local 58 for 60 years, first as an electrician, and soon after as a Business Agent until his retirement in 1997. Ben loved the outdoors, choosing to fish, golf and spend time with his family at the Chambers cottage in northern Michigan. He was a trivia buff, and was virtually impossible to stump. He had a big laugh and an even bigger heart. When Ben walked into a room, it was like the sun came out. His comic timing was legendary, and he could make your guts ache from laughing. Ben was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Memorial Mass for Ben will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:00am (Gathering 10:00am) at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins Road, White Lake.

We always enjoyed seeing Ben when he came to visit Ben Jr. and Mary in Florida. He was always so jolly and exceptional. He is now at peace without pain and suffering. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joan and the entire family at this time. Sending Love and strength from Ruskin, Florida.

His humor was the best, his straight face & timing then came the punch line . I’ve always told my children to hang around with people who have a “ story “ and can make you laugh, Ben had both, he also had the warmest heart. He invited myself my brother and my Dad to there deer camp. Ben knew my father was struggling with leukemia so Ben Sr. & Junior were the perfect host as they knew he was not long for this world. For that I am forever grateful and now picture them both laughing together with Jesus.
Big Ben you made a difference and will be grately missed.
R.I.P until we meet again
Sincerely

We are going to miss Ben. He was a great neighbor. We knew we could always count on him. We enjoyed talking to him when he went to the mail box, when he was taking out the garbage and working in the yard. Cindy would swim with Ben on Friday mornings at Lakeland High School. She figured if he could do laps, so could she. We are going to miss him the most when we take our boat out of the water. For the last several years he was in charge of the winch remote control that pulled our boat out. Without him Tom and I could not get
the rollers under the boat. It was a three person job and he was always there for us. This year we may be calling on you Joan to operate the remote control.
Love you both. Tom and Cindy Jefferson
