

Clinton Lee Kuopus, 83, passed away on March 20, 2026. Born on December 8, 1942, in Detroit, Clinton will be remembered with deep respect for a life shaped by service, scholarship, and enduring devotion to the arts.
After high school, Clinton pursued higher education with purpose and discipline, studying visual art and art history at Michigan State University and Wayne State University, and completing graduate work in fine arts at Eastern Michigan University. He also served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966, an experience that provided lasting inspiration for his artwork.
Clinton built a meaningful career as an educator and artist. He worked and taught at a number of colleges and universities in Ohio before moving to New York City in 1983. At Parsons School of Design, he taught drawing and painting in the Foundation Year Program and Illustration Department, and also served as Director of Exhibitions and Gallery Director. In 2004, Clinton returned to Michigan, where he married his beloved wife, Linda. Clinton was a man of many talents that certainly gave him fun and exciting opportunities throughout his life.
Later in life, Clinton was very involved in his church, Pine Hill Congregational Church, where he found community and a continued sense of purpose.
Clinton is survived by his wife, Linda, two step-daughters, Nicole Francis and Shannon Shannon and his grandaughters Kaitlyn and Madelyn Kupferer. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Pine Hill Congregational Church, 36520 W 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48331, on April 24, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at the same location on April 24, 2026, beginning at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society, Pine Hill Congregational Church, or a charity of your choice.
