He was my middle school gym teacher. I remember his never fading smile and positive attitude, I'm sure he is missed by everyone who knew him

Dear Michelle,

I was deeply saddened to hear the news about your husband’s passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time. My thoughts are with you and your family, and I hope you are surrounded by care and support as you navigate this loss.

With heartfelt sympathy and sincere wishes for strength in the days ahead,

Henning

To the family, friends, peers and students of Mr. Browne I am so sorry for your loss! Mr. Browne was teacher of mine at Oak Valley Middle School and I absolutely loved him as a teacher. He gave me the opportunity to shadow him when he was teaching at OVMS and I learned so much from him. Mr Browne, will be dearly missed and his legacy will be everlasting. ❤️ former student Isabella Donovan

Dave had a profound impact on all of our children. Our 3 boys ran for Dave at OVMS. I remember him telling Harrison that "he could work with even splits" helping Harry get his goals in cross country. When our daughter came to OVMS, he recruited her to run too, even though she was already playing volleyball. When she went to DC, she said she was in the "best bus" - it was the one Mr. Browne was in. This past track season, he "pinky promised" to teach her to high jump because he wanted her to learn. Whether in the classroom, on the track or the course, in DC or the basketball court, Mr. Browne gave his best to help kids do their best. His legacy is not in how fast you ran or how many baskets you made, but in his dedication to people. His legacy lives in the students he helped to elevate, in his work ethic, his compassion, and making kids feel seen. He will be greatly missed.

Dave had the kindest heart and a way of making everyone around him feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. He was always willing to share a joke, lend a helping hand, or simply be there when someone needed him. His calm presence brought comfort, and his steady, gentle nature left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
As a husband and father, he was deeply loved. As a teacher and coach, he inspired and encouraged countless others. As a neighbor and friend, he made our community a better, kinder place.
His laughter, wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength will be missed more than words can express. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the memories, the lessons, the laughter, and the love he gave so freely.
Rest peacefully. Your legacy lives on in everyone you touched. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered. ❤️

Elizabeth says he went above and beyond for her on the days she felt down or sad
Axel remembers on the first day of 6th grade, feeling a little anxious and unsure, Mr. Browne (new to the school as well), told him a joke and it instantly made him feel better.
Autumn admired him for trusting her with driving his daughter around
Bree enjoyed his joking manner but always included her in whatever they were doing and helped her with her swing at Top Golf.
We will miss you Dave/Mr. Browne,
The Nikkila Family

I’ve known Dave since grade school and had the honor of calling him my friend for the better part 30 years. From high school shenanigans to careers, daughters and adulting, Dave was a constant. A constant source of fun, encouragement and support.

Aside from his friendship, Dave was an honorary uncle to my daughters and godfather to my second-born. He was gentle soul, golf partner, vacation buddy and so much more to all of us.

Dave had the amazing ability to make you feel included whether you knew him for 20 minutes or 20 years. Scores of middle schoolers are missing out on having Mr. Browne as a teacher or Coach Browne for their athletics.

Dave was the ultimate girl dad and always proud of his daughters.

While I’m angry we didn’t have Dave around until our golden years and beyond, I’m thankful he was in our lives for this long.

Victoria, Shanna and of course, Michelle, our hearts are broken and you’re in our prayers.

Dear Michelle,

The message of your husband’s death left us speechless, and we want to express our condolences to you. We wished to be able to be at the funeral and have the chance to be there for you in person. It is beyond imagination how you must feel and we want you to know that we are with you in these difficult times and beyond. Our thoughts are with you and your daughters.

At 25, Dave and I made our first trip to Disney World. Michelle and Laura were making return trips, as they had both been there in their younger years.
Dave had picked up this My Pal Mickey, a stuffed toy that knew where you were within the parks and would talk to you and tell you about park facts, play games, etc.
He faithfully kept that toy on his belt loop the whole trip. Every time it signaled that it had something to say (with a very distinct ‘ha ha ha ha’ I can still hear 20 years later) Dave would pause, holding Pal Mickey to his ear to make sure he didn’t miss whatever joke or fun fact was coming his way.

Such childlike wonder at all the Disney magic. And that was Dave. So curious and in awe by all the world’s magic.

And we were so lucky that Mickey got stuck on that Monorail that one evening, so a kid near us would get the chance to kick off that fireworks show.

In 7th grade, I got the pleasure of having Mr. Browne as my science teacher. No matter how hard the day was I still always looked forward to walking in his classroom. Mr. Browne always made his students laugh, smile, and somehow managed to brighten up my day.

My favorite memory I shared with my classmates in Mr. Browne's class will forever make me laugh. We were chatting and finishing up our assignments. One of my classmates fell asleep, once it was brought to our attention Mr. Browne simply left them alone. Next thing we knew Mr. Browne lined us up in the front of the room by the hallway eager to tell us something. We were all confused since he was whispering and wanted us to stay quiet. Soon I looked back and saw them sleeping, and not long after Mr. Browne directed us to the "storage room" and shut the door. Mr. Browne approached them and woke them up explaining how the bell already rang. Then they saw us in the window.

Mr. Browne was an incredible teacher and coach that I know students have looked up to. He made such a great impact on the people that knew him. I only have known Mr. Browne for a year, but in that year I never had anything bad to say, no complaints or frustrations. I am so grateful for Mr. Browne. He will be missed.

We are keeping David in our prayers and hearts. We feel the weight of his loss. We knew him from birth, were his Godparents, and loved him with all our heart ❤️. We pray 🙏 for his family and loved ones. It's hard to be so far away. We live near our son Matt in Arizona. We love all of you and pray for you. Love Aunt Joyce and Uncle Dennis.

I was clearly the fifth wheel on this trip to Cedar Point, but Dave et al didn’t make it seem so. Rides are set two by two and he had us all switch around so everyone got a turn by themselves and we all got to switch around and sit with others instead of locking in by couple. Just one of a million examples on how Dave was sensitive to others and able to include everyone in for a good time.

We lost a dear friend Dave Browne this week, and it still doesn’t feel real. Twenty five years of friendship — full of laughter, great dinners, travel, inside jokes, and the kind of memories that turn friends into family.

Dave had this way of making everyone feel welcome and genuinely cared for. He was always upbeat, always encouraging, and being around him just made life feel lighter. Reading all the messages from teachers, students, friends, and family really shows how many people he impacted, and how much of himself he poured into everyone.

He and Michelle had a gift for bringing people together. Because of them, the LTU and the Salted trip crews became an amazing community we’re so grateful for. And even when life got busy, we still connected almost every day — sharing life experiences and whatever ridiculous thing would make each other laugh. We even jokingly had this running plan for a retirement tiki boat… just the two of us floating around with drinks and boat charcuterie while our partners worked.

Our hearts are with Michelle, the girls and family, who were the center of his world. We’re holding onto the joy he brought into ours, and the way he made every gathering lighter, funnier, and better just by being there.

Mr. Browne had such a tremendous impact on this community and there is now a space too great to comprehend that he once filled. My oldest had him as a science teacher and cross country coach and my youngest had just started the CC season with him, though Mr. Browne seemed to be everywhere all at once with his incredibly positive energy, easy smile and encouraging words. To Michelle, Shanna and Victoria - my family's deepest condolences to you and thank you so much for sharing your husband and father with us.

Mr. Brown was such a supporting figure when he coached his students. Whenever I felt frustrated and alone, he always would come up and talk me through whatever I was feeling, even when I didn’t outwardly look for help. His words always comforted the people around him and always breathed life into practices. It was his encouragement that helped me branch out to others on my team, and made me who I am today.
He was a huge factor in my enjoyment in pole-vaulting, and I will forever be grateful for the kindness, passion, dedication, and encouragement that he shared with us. His impact will always be in our hearts, and I am so lucky to have been one of his athletes.
To his family, I hope you know how deeply he was loved and appreciated by the students, athletes, and community he impacted. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Thank you, Mr. Brown. You will forever be loved and missed by the people who had the privilege of knowing you.

In 8th grade, me and my best friend had Mr. Browne. He was very enthusiastic about science and was deeply caring and funny to his students. He enjoyed telling us stories from his past and his travels to national parks. Me and my friend both wanted to visit him after we graduated high school because he was one of our best teachers we had, but unfortunately we won't be able to. The news about his passing was very unexpected and I still can’t believe what happened. I feel sorry for his family because even though we only knew him for one year, he still made a big impact. We will miss you Mr. Browne.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Browne. I am deeply sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you, your family, friends, and your former colleagues in the HVS community. ❤️

I am so so sorry for your loss. I understand what it feels like to loose a loved one. A few years ago I lost my grandpa. If you need anything ask Valerie Mills for my number.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Browne as my middle school cross country coach, science teacher both at Oak Valley and then again at Milford, and one of the few teachers who did push ups with us on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on the 8th grade Washington DC trip. He was always so positive and cared so greatly for his students, athletes, and friends and family (who he loved to talk about). My thoughts are with all of them at this time ❤️

The Frazier family sends love and hugs to all impacted by Dave’s massive loss. We first met Dave when Whit was starting to play bball in 4th grade. Shanna plays too. Over the years our families became friends and last year Whit also had him for 7th grade Science. Dave was phenomenal at everything he did. Dustin and I would get weekly emails of class updates and cool science facts. Whit would come home and yes, actually tell us about SCIENCE. His positivity and enthusiasm to all of his students and athletes was truly remarkable. As a HVS educator myself, I would look at him coaching XC, track, varsity basketball, and other bball teams and think to myself how does he have the energy and heart to give so much to every single kid? He was the kind of teacher and coach you always hope your children will have.
He was a true master of his craft who left an indelible mark on everyone he taught and coached. His dedication wasn't just a job, it was his calling, and our entire community was better because of him. Michelle, Shanna, and Victoria, thank you for sharing Dave and your dad with all of us. As incredible as he was as a coach and teacher, it was always clear that being a husband and dad to you three was his greatest pride. God is so lucky to have him, and he will be forever missed here!

Me and my best friend had Mr Browne as our 8th grade teacher. We loved his class and he was one of the nicest people ever. He was funny, and caring. I still can't believe it and I'm so sorry for his family. We all love you Mr Browne ❤️

Dave was a wonderful person. When he was young he worked for Gala Affair. We was a happy hard worker. Who always brought joy when he came in . He and Jason Kuechle had a joke a laugh or something funny to say. Those two brought fun to putting up tents. I’m sure will be missed. God bless y’all. Love and prayers, Rob n Sheri Robert’s

Browne always lead with an empathic and family-first mindset. He spearheaded some of my favorite memories of Milford Girls Basketball: Teddy Bear Toss and Teacher Appreciation Night. Personally, he always supported me from the minute I entered his program by helping me find my role on the team after my injury, supporting fundraisers for my student organization at GVSU for Make-A-Wish Michigan, and most recently congratulating me on my acceptance to PT school. I am thinking of his family and everyone in the HVS community he touched!!❤️

Best memory of middle school “Mr. Browne” favorite teacher and coach.
He has a way of encouraging me and motivating me to be and do my best even when I didn’t want to. He got me to agree to be on cross country team and I hate running. He took interest in my hobbies and always asked how my weekends and hockey tournaments went. I wish all teachers were like Mr. Browne.

Mr brown was a wonderful teacher in middle school, I was a little bit of a class clown, and I was always getting in trouble and I just remember him sitting me down and saying, Anthony, you are a smart student, and I know you are smarter than the way you act he always said, don't let your action be clouded with stupidity you are so much smarter then you lead your self to be i will forever miss learning science and you making a million jokes in making everybody laugh seriously , the best teacher anybody could ask for

From our pool parties on Campbell St to Mackinac Island Shenanigans to the Solar Eclipse party at the Nashville Zoo to the Graceworks Turkey Trot and all of the times in between, we will treasure these precious memories. Your kindness and love for your family will always remain in our hearts. Rest well, Dave ❤️ Love Aunt Sue & Family

Coach Browne was one of the very first people to welcome my family and I into the Milford community. He truly was such a kind person and am thinking of his family in this time. From being on the basketball court, in physics class, or babysitting his daughters, Coach Browne was always able to bring a light to this community. He is missed so much.

Mr. Browne was a teacher and person who truly stood out from the crowd. He always had a funny joke to tell, knew exactly how to make you laugh, had an infinite amount of patience, and somehow consistently found a way to keep us students engaged. I’ll never forget having him as one of my science teachers. He was, without a doubt, instrumental in my decision to pursue STEM as my future pathway.

The annual 8th-grade trip to DC was certainly made 10x more entertaining with his presence. Whether as a coach, teacher, or mentor, he was truly one of a kind.

My deepest condolences go out to his daughters, wife, friends, family, loved ones, and everyone else whose lives were profoundly impacted by his wonderful personality. You will be deeply missed, Mr. Browne. Thank you for being such an important part of my life and for inspiring so many of us along the way.

Dave was a wonderful light of kindness and joy in my world. I feel so lucky to have been his friend, colleague and occasional travel friend. I’ll always remember our adventures in China and on those questionable pontoons in Marco Island. Rest peacefully, my friend. You will forever be missed. I hope to leave a legacy as profound and positive as yours. ❤️❤️❤️

Dave you were so awesome to have on our teaching team in China. You helped both the teachers and students learn and grow together. Whenever I hear Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling," I will think of our team dance to enter the classroom. You will be missed.

Michelle, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I am thinking about you and your family!

Dave had a profound impact on our daughter Emma’s life. His expression in this photo defines who he was as a coach and mentor to so many athletes and student. His enthusiasm and encouragement was contagious.

Dave was a shining light in the few lucky years I knew him. Flabbergasted I love hard rock and Taylor Swift and as an ASD self contained teacher he ALWAYS signed up for our Popcorn Shop at WLMS and the Treat Truck at OVMS. I feel honored that I was able to know such a smart, funny, and kind soul. I will miss you my friend. The whole world will sense and feel our loss.

Dave Browne was a coach and teacher to my 4 kids… one if their favorites! He probably never knew the impact he had on so many young lives. My prayers go out to his wife and two young daughters. Our hearts our broken in our household. What a huge loss for the HVS community. 🙏

Dear MIchele,Linda and family. We baptised David and were part of the family for many years. We now live in Arizona. We know that David is in heaven. He was always a wonderful person. We send our prayers and condolences. Love to all, Aunt Joyce and Uncle Dennis Macoit. God bless and keep you all.

Mr. Browne taught both of my kids…as a former teacher…I was so happy when that happened because I knew what great hands they were in.
This news is so shocking. Condolences to his family…
🙏🏻

How one can manage to stay cool, calm, collected while teaching middle schoolers, I will never know. The genuine goodness that radiated from Mr. Browne (or more affectionately Mr. Purple, even sometimes Mr. Magenta to me) will never be forgotten, as I’m sure he was a favorite teacher and coach to so many. The world truly lost one of its best as Mr. B leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, wit, and unwavering support to anyone he encountered. I still remember how excited he was bringing up his new baby girl to a Lakeland track meet so many years ago. Thank you, Shanna and Victoria, and most importantly Michelle for sharing him with so many of us. I hope you find comfort in knowing he will live on in so many hearts as being one of the best people we’ve all ever had the pleasure of knowing. Sending so much love your way, I’m SO very sorry for your loss.

I remember camping with David and he was always quick with a smile or a joke and was always someone that everyone wanted to be around due to his positive and fun loving outlook on life. I will always remember the good times and energy that David brought to each gathering and occasion and I feel blessed by his example.

My heart and prayers go out to all of the family and friends that were touched by David's life.

I am heartbroken by the news of Coach Browne’s passing. He had the best sense of humor and the kindest heart, and he was truly such a positive light wherever he went. I’ll never forget all of the times we joked and laughed together, both on and off the basketball court.

He was a wonderful coach, teacher, mentor, and so much more. The impact he had on the lives of so many people will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. He will be deeply missed by so many.

A wonderful father a great husband a wonderful friend rest ibn peace nephew

Aunt Delores

I still remember all the jokes we had. He was genuinely the most thoughtful teacher I've had in these 11 years. The way he always knew when something was wrong kind of scared me in a way but I always knew I could go to him when anything was going on. I genuinely don't know what to think anymore.

I am so deeply sorry of your beloved David’s early departure. My heart aches for you Michelle. There are no words to ease your pain, but I want you to know you are not alone. You and your beautiful girls are in our thoughts and prayers.

We have so many memories of camping with Dave and his family over the years. Dave became a part of our family. We also remember his wedding well. We will miss Dave very much. We are praying for all his family during this difficult time. Please know you are loved!

Dave was a big part of the fun memories of my youth. The camping trips were the best times of my summer. Playing baseball, kickball, football, lots of laughter. Dave was always one of those nice guys you easily felt comfortable around. He was clearly someone that would do anything to help someone in need. He lived a life influenced by jesus. This physical world on earth will miss him. He is not gone, he is with us all, and he will never leave us. I feel his presence thinking back on some of the memories. Those memories last forever.

Dear Brownes,
I’m struggling with words. I know you are devastated. Dave filled the room with fun, laughter, adventure, and good food. He loved you so very much! He was an amazing listener who deeply cared about people. It was a blessing to grow up together. A favorite memory of mine is having our brownie eating contest and talking around campfires while our families camped together. Oh, and there’s the time I thought I grabbed Matt’s wallet at your house but really stole Dave’s! His sense of humor made it all good! We are here or there to help you. We will not cease in praying for you! May the eternal light shine upon him and give him rest .
All my love and my family’s love ,
Maddie xoxo
