Eleanor “Ellie” Harriett Hensley, 85, of Wixom, MI passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan due to complications from an infection.
Ellie was born on April 16, 1928 in Pendleton, Oregon to Forrest and Emma Baker. Preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband William, brother Charles Baker, sister Emma (Del) Moore, and grandson Craig Hiler. She is survived by her daughters Linda Hensley and Beverley (Chuck) Hiler; three brothers: Guy (Clara) Baker, Forrest (Pattie) Baker, and Edwin Baker; three grandchildren: Amber (Mark) Logusz, Angela Stombaugh, and Charles Hiler. She is also survived by grandson’s widow, Olivia Hiler. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren: Stephen, Charlotte and Gabriel Logusz; Aaron, Cameron, and Rachael Hiler; Stephenie and Thomas Stombaugh, and Colt Mancogna; Michael, Matthew, Sylvia and Sarah Hiler.
Ellie had a long career at Safeway Food Store in LaGrande, Oregon until she retired in October 1984. She and her beloved husband, William, moved to Wixom, MI to be near their daughters. She became a licensed babysitter so she could babysit for family and friends. She loved reading books, receiving letters, and spending time with family. She was famous for her apple pies, fried chicken, fried egg sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, jelly rolls, and holiday treats. She will be dearly missed by everyone, but will always be in our hearts.
Ellie did not want a formal funeral service. A private family memorial dinner was held at a local restaurant. Per her wishes, she was cremated and will be at rest at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Michigan.
