Beloved wife of the late Oliver Boss for 64 years. Loving Mother of Evelyn, Nancy, Matthew (Mike Renner), Gretchen (Mark Stern), Mary Lynne (Bob Boonenberg), Karen (Dan Doman), Michael (Theresa), Michelle (Bill Peregord) and Jennifer (Skip Inman). She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving McDevitt of her generation. She was born on February 16, 1932, the 5th of 6 children to Eugene McDevitt and Florine McDevitt (Dumouchelle).
She graduated from Immaculata High School and worked briefly at Detroit Edison where she met her future husband, Ollie. As a young homemaker she was an avid crafter, baker, seamstress, lover of all board games, puzzles and card games, teaching all her children how to play Bridge. Although motherhood took up most of her time earlier in life, in her later years she worked at a florist and was the co-owner of a children’s clothing store. She loved to travel, Viva Las Vegas, and soak up the sun. She played piano, loved music, especially musicals, and passed this love of music on to all her children. She founded a local chapter of a Ladies Red Hat group named the Ditzy Duchesses and served as their Queen Elizabeth! But most of all she cherished her time at the frequent gatherings of her large family that were always filled with laughter.
She was greatly loved and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Taylor Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (www.taylorconservatory.org), or MetaVivor Metastatic Breast Cancer Research, Support & Awareness. www.metavivor.org
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Plymouth Manor, 345 North Main St., Plymouth, MI. The family will receive guests from 1 to 4 p.m. for Hors d’oeuvres, Cocktails and Fellowship.
