

Bill was born June 30, 1931 in Hazel Park, Michigan to Ernest W. Bauer and Elizabeth C. Bauer. He attended Hazel Park High School, Alma College and completed his education at the University of Michigan Medical School, class of 1953. That same year, Bill married the love of his life, Doris Griffith. He and his brother, Bruce Bauer joined their father, Ernest, Sr. in private practice. He and his brother later moved to Emergency Medicine at the Beaumont Hospitals and Ferndale Clinic. Bill was medical director for hospice for two years after retiring.
In addition, Bill loved playing drums in a band with his brother and others appropriately called "The Heartbeats". Bill with his wife Doris were loving parents to six children. He loved taking family vacations, camping and seeing the United States. He enjoyed many fun times with friends including golf trips as well as wonderful trips to foreign lands. Other interests included plays, music, tennis and skiing. Bill was known for his sense of humor, helping others, his intelligence and thoughtfulness. He also volunteered for Reading for the Blind, Open Door, Hazel Park Promise, Hospice and was a Lector and Usher.
Bill is survived by his children; Cecilia (Tim Flynn), Elizabeth (Bob Wallick), Colleen (David Maxwell) and Steve (Michelle); grandfather (Medium pa) to Joel, Erik, Erin, Alec, Harrison, Kelly, Parker and Chloe; and great grandfather to Kinsley, Olive, Ian and Ivy. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his brother Bruce, sons Michael and Matthew and grandson Bradley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the White Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road in White Lake. Funeral Mass will beheld on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins in White Lake with visitation at church from 10:00 am until the time of the mass at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bill's name for Care Team Hospice, the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of your choice.
