Gloria L. Burkett

Gloria L. (Dettman) (Swanson) Burkett, age 85, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, formerly of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2012. Daughter of Wallace and Anna Swanson, Gloria was born in Youngstown, OH, and lived in Roscoe, PA, graduating from California High School. She was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hubert Burkett, and the late Richard Dettman. She is survived by her children; Carole Dettman, Linda (David) Stull, David (Heidi) Dettman, and Laurel (Alex Weiner) Dettman; and four grandchildren; Lauren and Jaimee Stull and Gabriela and Adrienne Weiner. Gloria was active in her nursing career throughout her life. She was an active member of the Women’s Club of Kewaunee and Delray Beach. Gloria was a devoted mother and will always be remembered for her warm personality. She was an avid reader and had a passion for writing. She wrote and directed many plays over the years. She was a much sought after card player and loved board games. Her spirit of adventure and travel took her to many worldly destinations. She thoroughly enjoyed life. Gloria was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

A private service was held for the immediate family. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In memory of Gloria, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Arrangements entrusted to the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, White Lake, MI.
