October 29, 1970 – May 19, 2025
James Michael David was born on October 29, 1970, in Harper Woods, Michigan, to Andrew David Sr. and Barbara Bates. He spent his life in the Union Lake and White Lake area, where he built a home surrounded by family, friends, and the water he loved so dearly.
James had a deep love for the lake—he could often be found hydro sledding or swimming from sunrise to sunset. He had a zest for life, a playful spirit, and a passion for music. Bob Seger was his all-time favorite artist. James proudly attended many concerts, once landing a front-row seat and even receiving a signed photo—a memory he cherished for the rest of his life.
He was also known for his love of throwing a Frisbee, enjoying music at full volume, and laughing with those around him. His energy was infectious, and his heart was full of kindness.
Professionally, James was deeply dedicated to his work at New Horizons Day Program, where he spent his career Monday through Friday, thriving in a role that gave him purpose and connection.
James is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Bates; his brother, Andrew David Jr.; and his sister, Andrea David-Hahnenberg (Joseph Hahnenberg). He was a proud uncle to Andrew Hahnenberg (Alexandria), Anthony Hahnenberg (Sydney Lawson), and many more. He was also cherished by his great-nieces and great-nephews and all his extended family and non family members.
He is also survived by his beloved fur babies, Benny and Cooper, who brought him constant companionship and joy.
James was preceded in death by his father, Andrew David Sr.
James was loved by many and will be remembered for his joyful spirit, loyalty to those he loved, and the warmth he brought into every room. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, music, and lakefront memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
