She was born in Detroit, MI to William & Margaret Scherrer. She worked as an insurance agent for a number of companies before retiring in her seventies.
Karen enjoyed spending time with her friends & family and especially her grandchildren. She led an active, busy life. Whether preparing a dish or dessert for church, a holiday get together or just a quiet weekend meal with family, she put her all into making everything the best. She was always on the go, maintaining her yard & flowers, traveling to new locations or visiting with friends & family, and shopping.
She is survived by her children: Elaine Willis, John (Brinda) Malaski, Matt (Kristine) Malaski, Craig Malaski, Anne (Andrew) Stonehouse; grandmother of nine; great-grandmother of seven, step mother of Tracey Simmons-Colvin and Brian Simmons; step grandmother of seven, sister of Marlene (Tim) Salaske, Paulette (Ron) Reinke, Nancy (Lou) Frederick, and Michael (Julie) Scherrer. Karen was preceded in death by her husbands, John Malaski, Gary Peters, and Robert Simmons, and her brother Bill Scherrer.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black and Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Rd., White Lake, MI 48386. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
Interment will be at Great Lakes National
