

Laveda Pauline Powers, who was born on June 25, 1943, in Dudley, Missouri, passed away on May 2, 2026, in White Lake, Michigan, surrounded by the legacy of a life marked by love, generosity, and creativity.
She was the beloved wife of Leroy, and their marriage, beginning on September 8, 1961, was a lasting example of devotion and partnership. Through the years, their bond was built on deep affection, shared memories, and the steady strength that comes from walking through life together. Laveda was a devoted mother to Kerrie Powers, married to Susan Fyan, and Laura Powers, married to Rick Sovel. Her love for her daughters was evident in all that she did, and she took great pride in the family she helped nurture and guide.
Laveda was also a sister to the late John Turnbull and to Joe Turnbull and his wife, Debbie. Daughter of the late Stanley Turnbull and Juanita Chastine Newton. She cherished the ties of family and understood the importance of connection, loyalty, and kindness. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind other loving family members and friends who were blessed by her presence and will hold her memory close to their hearts.
Laveda was an amazing mother and homemaker. She had a remarkable gift for making all those that knew her feel loved, appreciated and cared for. Her life was centered on family, and she found great joy in the simple but meaningful acts of daily living that made a house feel like home. She was a wonderful cook, baker and gardener, and many will remember the comfort and happiness that came from her kitchen. She gave of herself freely, and made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her devotion to home and family, Laveda was a talented artist. She worked in both oil, acrylics, and watercolor media, creating paintings that reflected her eye for color, detail, and expression. She also enjoyed building stained glass boxes and sun catchers. Her artistic abilities were a true reflection of who she was, and she had a natural ability to bring beauty into the world around her.
Those who knew her will remember her as loving, generous, and creative, as well as passionate when it came to politics and land issues. She stood up for what she believed in and became a strong voice at the local township and with state leaders.
Her life was one of steadfast love for her family and creative expression. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, her ability to laugh, her deep love for her family, her thoughtful nature, and the many ways she enriched the lives of others. Though her passing leaves a deep sadness, her memory will continue to live on through the family she loved, the art she created, and the countless moments of kindness she shared.
Laveda Pauline Powers will be deeply missed and forever remembered with affection and gratitude by all who knew and loved her.
Family will receive friends on monday, May 11, 2026 from 4:00 PM until time of Funeral Service 7:00 PM at the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, located at 1233 Union Lake Road, White Lake, Michigan 48386. Ben Evers will officiate.
