Marge Geoghegan, of White Lake, passed away at home peacefully on May 5th, 2026 at the age of 92. Margaret Joan Kerner was born in Petoskey, Mich., to parents George and Ava Kerner in 1933. She grew up on a small farm in the quaint northern Michigan town with her sisters Mary and Anna.
Her first job was at the age of 13, working in the kitchen of the hospital where her father worked at the time. She became a dietitian and was working at a hospital in Grand Rapids when she met her husband, William Geoghegan. They married in June of 1961 and after moving to Detroit, gave birth to Neil in 1962. They then welcomed Rita, Kevin and Mark in quick succession.
The family moved from Detroit to White Lake Township in 1972. When the children were teenagers, she went back to work and loved working at Winship Studios until she retired. She and Bill spent many happy winters in Zellwood, Fla., and loved having their children and grandchildren visit.
Marge and Bill were married 54 years and they were a wonderful example to all who knew them for their love for each other, their willingness to work together to raise their children, and provide a loving home.
Marge was a long-time parishioner at Holy Spirit and St Patrick’s churches and was involved in various charities throughout the years. She liked to bowl and was a life-long Spartan fan after taking classes at MSU in the 1950’s. Marge enjoyed spending time with family, watching old movies, playing dominos and, of course, babysitting and playing with her seven grandchildren. They loved hearing about her early life, growing up during the Great Depression, life in Petoskey, and stories about Marge’s parents and sisters.
Marge is survived by daughter Rita Higgins (Terry) of White Lake, and sons Neil Geoghegan (Debbie) of New London, Pa., Kevin Geoghegan (Vera) of Brighton and Mark Geoghegan (Dawn) of Hoover,. Ala., and her beloved grandchildren Jim, Shane, Liam, Ella, Ian, Ava and Anna. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Bill Geoghegan.
Marge will be remembered for her sense of humor and as a loving, caring, faith-filled woman who is at peace with the Lord Jesus now, which was her most fervent wish.
