

Margaret Ann Godfrey, age 86, of Royal Oak, died Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Waltonwoods Assisted Living in Royal Oak. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tom (Mary) Godfrey, Patti (Mike) Harrison, Kathy Godfrey, Mary Jo (Michael) Onweller, and Ann (Lyle) Garvey; ten grandchildren: Nicole (Rob), Megan (Lucas), Jessica (Ian), Paige, Tyler, Becca, Wesley, Ryan, Ari, Kate, and Rowan; four great-grandchildren: Alexia, Bradley, Connor, and Luke, and one great-granddaughter on the way; two sisters: Mary Kay (Jerry) Schopen and Katy (Robert) Yaklin; and many other extended family members.
Margaret was born September 9, 1933, in Detroit, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward and Catherine (Hastings) Andries. She and Richard Godfrey were married in 1954, and shared forty-two wonderful years together until Richard’s death in 1996. Margaret worked as a registered nurse for the state of Michigan for many years, and was a founder and organizer of the NADONA Michigan chapter, an organization devoted to providing scholarship funds for nursing students.
In her free time, Margaret enjoyed playing bridge and reading a good book. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by many.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Catherine; her husband, Richard Godfrey; her son, Edward Thomas Godfrey; and her two brothers: Edward and Henry Andries.
In accordance with Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The memorial mass will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, March 13, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins Road, White Lake, Michigan 48386. Margaret will lie in state at church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider making memorial contributions in Margaret’s name to the American Heart Association.
