Mary Margaret Higgins, a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Commerce Township, Michigan, at the age of 86. Born on February 24, 1939, in the lush countryside of County Galway, Ireland, Mary carried the warmth of her Irish roots throughout her life.
A cherished sister, godmother, and aunt, Mary was the beloved sibling of John Joe (the late May) Higgins, Peadar (Norah) Higgins, the late Stephen (the late Bernadette) Higgins, Agnes (the late Eamon) Gaughan, Roseanne (John) Geraghty, Micheal (Bernadette) Higgins, Frank (Breda) Higgins, and Martin Higgins. She beamed with pride as the blessed godmother of Catherine (Florian) Gaughan and John Joe Mackin and will be dearly missed by a host of loving family members. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Higgins, whose values of love and family she embodied every day.
Mary's professional journey was marked by dedication and leadership, having worked as a manager at General Motors for nearly four decades. Her intelligence and courage were the cornerstones of her career, earning her respect and admiration from her colleagues. Beyond her professional achievements, Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary our Lady of the Snow in Milford, where she found a spiritual home and community.
Family was the centerpiece of Mary's life. She cherished spending time with her loved ones, whether it was through regular visits to her siblings and their families or traveling back to Ireland to reconnect with her roots. Her generous spirit was most palpable during the holidays when she made it a tradition to visit family in Canada, especially cherishing the Christmas season.
Mary's interests extended beyond her family and work. She was a woman of courage and generosity, always ready to support and uplift those around her. Her intelligence shone brightly not only through her career success but also in the wisdom she shared with others. Mary's presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and her legacy will continue to influence and guide her family and friends.
