Ronald Ralph Sparrow

Ron was born on April 14, 1942, in Southfield, Michigan. He lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, humor, and a deep devotion to the people he loved. He was a man who could fix almost anything, and he approached life with the same steady hands and determined spirit that guided him through every challenge. Those who knew him best will remember him as an intelligent, skillful, and adventurous person who really loved to tell a good story.

He was the beloved husband of Janet Sparrow, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories. Ron was a proud father to Ronnie Sparrow, David Sparrow and his wife Robin, Lori Starch and her husband Matt, and the late Michael P. Herr, who was affectionately known as “Cuz.” He was a devoted grandfather to Joe Herr and Karolina Pietrzyk, Tyler Herr, Sebastian Starch, Bethany Starch, Francesca “Frankie” Tamburo, and the late Nikki Herr. He was a beloved brother to Dale Sparrow and his wife Lois, as well as the late Cheryl Sparrow. Ron had a special bond with his dear friend Jeff “Snert” Hulburt, and he is also survived by so many close friends and family members who will cherish his memory always.

Ron retired from General Motors after 31 years of dedicated service, where he worked as a foreman, mechanic, and finally in assembly in the Pontiac, Michigan plants. He took great pride in his work and in the skills he developed over the years. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Local 594, where he stood alongside fellow workers with the same sense of commitment that defined his career. His strong work ethic and practical knowledge were hallmarks of his life, and he carried those qualities into everything he did.

Ron was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles in Michigan, Aerie 3206 in Madison Heights and Aerie 3690 in Caseville. He is also a member of “The Lost Boys,” a cherished group of family members and friends, where he was affectionately known as “Frappy.” He valued friendship deeply and was fortunate to have many great friends throughout his life.

Early in life, Ron had a passion for enhancing and racing cars, boats, and go carts in regional competitions. Many hours were spent in his garage rebuilding cars, including corvettes and his most treasured 1934 Ford which has won several local awards. He enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and traveling across the United States. He also helped to design and build their beach house in Port Austin, Michigan, where he enjoyed many bonfires and amazing sunsets with family and friends.

Ron will be remembered with love and admiration for the life he lived, the work he did, the friendships he formed, and the family he cherished. His memory will continue to bring comfort, laughter, and strength to those who were fortunate enough to know him.
