Ruth Illene Stivers Thomas

Ruth was born on the 7th of January 1929, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Ruth and Perry Stivers. Ruth enjoyed gardening, going to church, and going to the casino. She adored her family and always made occasions for family get-togethers memorable. Her laughter and smiling eyes lit up the room. She was a breast cancer survivor and lived a full, positive life. Ruth will be remembered by her family and friends as a gentle, caring, loyal woman who cared unconditionally and gave without question. Ruth is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 68 years, Donald Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Ruth Stivers, brother Rollins, sister Sue and daughter Karen Courtemanche (Warren). She is survived by her sister Betty, son, Paul Thomas (Evelyn), grandchildren Kevin Jokela (Joan), Kimberly Belford-Dofflemyer (Chad), Stephen Belford, Nicholas Thomas, Dan Courtemanche, and great-grandchildren James Slemons and Richard Slemons.

A funeral will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Advent Episcopal Church/Sylvan Lake Lutheran Church, 2399 Figa Ave. West Bloomfield, MI.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Ruth’s name may be directed to the Advent Episcopal Church Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.
