Verna Helen Stoick, age 97, of White Lake, died Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Independence Village of White Lake. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Veronica (James) Haines, Louise Stoick, and Brian (Helen) Stoick; her five grandchildren: James (Antonina) Haines, II, John Haines, Alexander Stoick, Olivia Stoick, and Isabelle Stoick; her two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Dylan Haines; her sister Theresa (Paul) Calopisis; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Verna was born March 17, 1922, in Muskegon, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John and Bertha (Vargo) Kosik. She and Willis Stoick were married in 1941. Throughout her life, Verna enjoyed many hobbies, including skiing, golfing, and traveling. She also loved to read and make needlepoint projects in her free time. Verna was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in West Bloomfield for fifty years.
Verna is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Willis; her six brothers; and her two sisters.
On Friday, January 24, 2020, Verna will be taken to Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 3700 Commerce Road, West Bloomfield, Michigan 48324, to lie in state from 9:00 am until the time of her funeral mass at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
