Born in Yugoslavia, William's life story was one marked by extraordinary perseverance and determination from a very young age. Starting at the age of 11 years old, he bravely fought in the Yugoslav Partisan Army against Germany during World War II, showing remarkable strength and patriotism far beyond his years.
At the age of 20, William immigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities and a better future. Proud to serve his adopted country, he was drafted in the United States Army and honorably served during the Korean War from 1952 and 1953. His service reflected the same bravery and dedication that defined his entire life.
Following his military service, William built a long and hardworking career in the steel industry, eventually retiring from Jones and Laughlin Steel in Warren, MI. William possessed a remarkable artistic eye and an unmatched passion for landscaping. His yard became a masterpiece of living art, where he carefully sculpted bushes into extraordinary shapes such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the pyramids, and the Joshua Tree. Friends, neighbors, and family alike admired both his craftsmanship and the patience and imagination behind every creation.
William was a poet, writing some poems for his wife Helen, and other poems which he related to different times in his life. He loved words, music and expression. He also enjoyed singing and crooning songs and this included singing the poems he wrote. His voice, storytelling and gentle spirit will be missed.
