Bernice B. Tigard

Bernice passed away peacefully August 14th surrounded by her family. Bernice was born in Atoka County, OK in 1933 to Arthur and Mary Weatherford. She grew up in Hot Springs, AR and attended Lake Hamilton High School where she met the love of her life, Theodore Tigard. They were married shorty after graduating in 1953 and then relocated to Wichita, KS. In 1955, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Alan. They raised their son in Wichita and were members of Antioch Christian Church.

Bernice was an avid reader, bowler and enjoyed playing cards with friends, but what she loved most was spending time with family, especially her two granddaughters, Michelle and Dyan. Bernice worked most of her adult life in the accounting department of E.B.Y. Construction in downtown Wichita. She enjoyed her work and cherished the many friendships she made while working there.

She retired in 1994 and soon relocated to Mountain Home, AR with her husband, Ted. While in Mountain Home, Bernice and Ted became active members of Memorial Christian Church. She spent her retirement enjoying the lake, bowling in local leagues and watching the hummingbirds in her backyard. Bernice and Ted moved back to Wichita in 2012 to live out their remaining years closer to Alan and his family. Bernice was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Dax, and loved spending time with them often, and she was equally cherished by them. She was loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, and her brothers, Henry Weatherford and Odell Weatherford. She leaves behind her devoted husband Ted Tigard, son Alan (Susan) Tigard, granddaughters Michelle (Lucas) Kammerer and Dyan (Dirk) Rader, and great-grandchildren, Lucy and Dax Rader.

Her Memorial Service for family and friends will be Friday August, 20th at 6:30pm in the Fireside Room at Riverlawn Christian Church at 4243 N. Meridian Ave, Wichita, KS 67204.
