James Deveon Riggins, age 89, passed on August 29, 2026 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on March 17, 1937 to John and Vera (Applewhite) Riggins in Memphis, Tennessee.
After high school, James enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955. While stationed in Japan he met the love of his life Masako Yoshido. They later married on December 12, 1958 in Seattle, Washington.
While in the Air Force he was a Jet Engine Mechanic and Security Police until retirement in 1975. After retirement, he worked for the Wichita Police Department where he was a traffic officer and park security.
James was very outgoing; he never met a stranger. He was an avid bowler, civilian pilot, loved to travel, enjoyed riding his Gold Wing, going to the zoo, officiated K-12 and college sports, and most of all loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Frederick Riggins.
He leaves to cherish his memories, four children; John (Kim) Riggins, Joyce (Mike) Thorensen, Michelle (Wesley) Marquand, and Dean (Kristi) Riggins; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother Stephen Riggins and many nieces, nephews and friends.
