Laura Louise Landis passed away on August 24, 2026 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born to Louis and Cleone Kearns in Kiowa, Kansas. After graduating from Kiowa High School, she married her childhood friend, George U. Landis. They were married on July 30, 1950. They moved to San Diego, California where George entered the Marine Corps. Two years later they moved to Wichita, Kansas where Laura became a homemaker and George entered the field of accounting.
Laura brought a smile and kind words and laughter to everyone she met. She was also very patriotic, and had a deep love for the American flag, and the colors red, white, and blue. Having been a hairdresser herself, she also believed in supporting local businesses, especially small businesses. She knew the difference this made in the lives of the owners, their families, and the communities that surrounded them.
Laura is predeceased by her husband, George, and her parents. She is survived by brother-in-law Fred (Hazel) Landis, nephews, James (Cindy) Landis, Ronny (Beverly) Landis, and great-nephews Luke, Jacob, Parker and Preston, all from Texas. She is also survived by close friends Audrey and Tony Robertson and Leon Woods.
Services will be held at Hillside Funeral Home West, located at 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, KS 67203, on Friday, August 28, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa, Kansas at 3:00 PM.
