Loyd Arthur Kupfersmith, age 89, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. He was born June 18, 1935 in Home, Kansas to Arthur and Jennie Kupfersmith. He grew up on a farm, attended Summerfield High School, and graduated in 1953. He entered the United States Army in December of 1954, spending most of his time in Germany.
Loyd married Sharon Holt on December 21, 1957. He worked at the Boeing Aircraft Company and attended Wichita State University. He would receive a master's degree in teaching, and began his teaching career in 1962. Loyd taught at Hamilton Middle School for 28 years.
Not one to rest, Loyd started his paint contracting company in 1965 and continued for many years. He was a gifted woodworker and painter who was creative and detail oriented. The years he spent on a farm were formative, and he loved taking care of livestock and working on the farm. He didn't shy away from the hard and messy work of caring for cows, sheep, chickens and other livestock. And he liked to tinker in the garden as well. Loyd had a great love of horses, and riding. And though he never directly participated in rodeo competitions, he loved it as a sport. He would frequently be found in the stands at rodeo events, and the rodeo channel was almost always on at home.
Loyd loved his family, most of all, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. Being a man of great faith, his church family was also very important to him. A family friend recently said of Loyd, "He was a good man. A dying breed of hard workers with integrity." He was known as a very hard worker, almost always working, and without many hobbies since he had little leisure time. Even so, he did enjoy camping and fishing. He would gladly take his grandkids on trips to fish with him any time he could.
He was preceded in death by his amazing wife, Sharon; and parents, Arthur and Jennie Kupfersmith.
He is survived by his children, Brian (Lisa) Kupfersmith, Kathy (Robert) Koenigsman; grandchildren, Curtis (Kali) Kupfersmith, Taci (Ryan) Wilson, Missy (Jacob) Perschke, Paul (Jaicey) Richard, Keaton Koenigsman; great grandchildren, Thatcher Wilson, Rylinn Wilson, Lily Perschke, Owen Kupfersmith, twins Cooper and Brooks Perschke; siblings, Betty Wright and Ramola Eldridge; and many extended family members, in-laws, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67203.
