Marilyn Ruth Bentley was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She was an avid reader, writer, singer, music-lover, church member, volunteer and educator. Marilyn passed away peacefully on August 2, 2022. Marilyn was born on October 15, 1926 in Mason City, IA to Henry & Elizabeth Peck. She grew up in Garner, IA and graduated in 1944 from Garner High School. In 1946, she received her Associate degree and Teacher’s Certification from Monmouth College and began teaching in Spirit Lake, IA. There, she met Milwaukee Railroad Depot-agent, Lyle William (Bill) McClintock and the couple married in 1949. In 1950, Bill & Marilyn moved to Rembrandt, IA and, while there, were blessed with five children, William (Rocky), Martha, Susan, Dana & Patrick. In 1967, Bill unexpectedly passed while the family was living in Rockwell City, IA. Shortly thereafter, Marilyn, while still raising their five children, went back to school, attending Buena Vista College and, in January of 1969, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and began teaching High School English. In June of 1969, Marilyn married family-friend, Gilbert Bentley, adding his sons Bob and Bill to the family and moving everyone back to Rembrandt, IA. Together, Marilyn and Gil enjoyed spending time with their children & grandchildren, fishing, camping, traveling and being active members in the Rembrandt Community. After Gil’s passing, Marilyn moved to Valley Center, KS in 1998 and became a resident at Sunflower Gardens Senior Residences. Marilyn volunteered at the Public Library, attended Valley Center Christian Church and wrote a weekly-article called “The View From Sunflower Gardens” for the local newspaper. In June, Marilyn celebrated her 95th jubilee surrounded by over 40 family-members and three generations of her offspring. Marilyn was loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her 7 children, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Donald, Lowell, John Henry and Virginia, her husbands, son-in-law Dennis Reedy, daughter-in-law Devon Bentley and Marilyn’s companion for 16 years, Graycie Cat.
