Mary L Gist, age 81, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. She was born on May 3, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to Joseph and Mabel (Hessee) Moore. In 1961, Mary graduated from Southeast High School and attended Wichita Business College. She was united in marriage to John David Gist in January of 1963. For 4 years she worked at Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS) in the Animal Husbandry Department while John was earning his Architectural Degree. They moved back to Wichita in 1966 and in April of 1966 their son Robert Alan was born. Golfing was an activity that she excelled in and enjoyed playing. Five times she was the Women's Club Champion at Rolling Hills Country Club. She enjoyed quilting (including a quilt of Valor for her nephew), sewing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; her sister, Cathy Wadley. Mary is survived by her son: Robert Alan and her brother: Joe (Leeann Brown) Moore. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on December 10, 2024 at Hillside Funeral Home West Chapel, 2929 W. 13th St. N., Wichita, Kansas 67203.
