Nancy Jo Koenig, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born on May 13, 1947, in Minot, North Dakota, the second of three children born to Reverend Roland and Anne Hafner.
Growing up, the family moved due to her father being a Lutheran minister. Most of her childhood through high school graduation was spent in LaValle and Mequon, Wisconsin. Nancy then went on to receive her RN Certificate from Milwaukee County Hospital where she also worked before joining the U.S. Air Force, serving for 2 years including a year spent in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict. After her honorable discharge, she married Karl Koenig, husband of 55 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Joel Hafner.
Survivors include her husband, Karl Koenig; sons, Albert Koenig and his wife, Lynlee Weber; Joel and his wife, Karen Koenig; grandchildren, Theo, Asher, Ethan, and Cate; brother and sister-in-law, Richard Hafner and his wife Patricia Silverman; and a host of extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 6770 E.34th Street North, Wichita.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Risen Savior Lutheran Church or Victory in the Valley.
