

NOEL F. DEPEW, 86, WWII Veteran, was lifted into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 9, 2010. Noel was born March 21, 1924 in Greenleaf, Kansas to Ray and Pearl (Cole) Depew, who preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Sandi; daughter Susan (Richard) Carlisle; son Mark Depew all of Wichita; stepchildren Karri (Terry) Timmons of Cheney; Kenny (Linda) Ramsey of Pryor, OK; Kristi (Erik) Pedersen of Andover; grandchildren Dane, Brooke, Cory, Scott and Nicholas. He is also survived by a brother Doug (Ruby) Depew of Wichita and sister Dorothy (Elmer) Wiechman of Sedgwick.
After high school Noel moved to Wichita and worked for Boeing before enlisting into active duty with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He became a fighter pilot, missing action by one week. After completing his active duty, Noel joined the Air National Guard where he served as the Kansas Wing Commander of the Civil Air Patrol, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Also, after active duty, he attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK, fine tuning his engineering skills. Upon graduation Noel moved back to Wichita and worked for Boeing, Precision Contours and NCR, retiring in 1990. Noel loved doing maintenance work at the church, playing golf, plus teaching the grandchildren how to play golf.
A celebration of Noel’s life will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church, 11441 E. Central at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 15th. Visitation with family will be Thursday, October 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hillside West Funeral Home, 2929 W. 13th. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church.
