

Driggers, Rev. Ronald Dean, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Mar. 1, 2011 at Wesley Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Ron was born in Grayville, IL in 1924. He attended Mt. Vernon Township High School in Mt. Vernon, IL and graduated from McKendree College in Lebanon, IL. and also from Asbury Theologocial Seminary in Wilmore, KY. He pastored churches in Kane, IL; Worden, IL; Dupont, IN; Marshall, TX; Florence, AL; Macon, GA; East Ridge, TN, and was then was elected Secretary Treasurer of the Evangelical Methodist Church denomination in Abilene, TX and Wichita, KS, transferring the headquarters to Wichita, KS in 1962. He retired in 1990 after 65 years in the ministry. He served in the U.S. Navy during W. W. II. as a 3rd class radio operator and petty officer. He was a long time referee for Jr. and Sr. high schools around Kansas, and was an avid W. S. U. sports enthusiast and attended every game he could. Ron spent every day of his life uplifting those around him. He always had a funny story or bible verse, or whatever it took to make another person feel better. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha Driggers, and brother R. Kim Driggers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Velda Driggers, his daughters Carol Jean (Scottie) Dobbins of Park City, KS; Rhonda Cherry (Peter) Fornaris of Baton Rouge, LA; his sons Michael Dean (Shirley) Driggers of Kathleen, GA, and Steven Shawn (Kathie) Driggers of Wichita, and his sister Myrna Ragsdale of Columbia, SC. Ron is also survived by his six grandchildren he treasured: Misty (Lee) Driggers Wingate of Kathleen, GA; Ericka Lynn Cherry of Wichita; Mick (Anisa) Driggers of Bonaire, GA; Joe Dean Stewart of Wichita; Ashley Ryan (Brooke) Cherry of Wichita, and Taylor Kay Driggers of Wichita, and by ten precious great grandchildren whom he loved so much. Ronald, we love you and will miss you always. Thank you for being the best husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend one could ever ask for. Your loving family.
