

Ubaldo Retana Najera passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the eldest of seven children, born to Evelio Najera and Evelia Retana Najera in Pánuco de Coronado, Durango, Mexico.
In the late 1970s, Ubaldo and his family moved to Kansas, where he met the love of his life, Maria Lourdes Najera. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two children, their daughter Sonia Najera and later their son Carlos Najera.
Ubaldo was a devoted family man and a true jack of all trades. He had the remarkable ability to fix just about anything—from cars to homes—and was also known for cooking incredible meals for those he loved. He was the proud patriarch of his family, including his beloved four-legged son, Santino.
Ubaldo found joy in spending time with family and friends, working on cars, sharing laughs over a Bud Light, listening to music, taking walks with his wife, visiting his brothers in Mexico, and making lasting memories with his children.
He was preceded in death by his father, Evelio Najera, and his brother, Rey Najera.
Ubaldo is survived by his wife, Maria Lourdes Najera; his daughter, Sonia Baca, and son-in-law Jaime Baca; his son, Carlos Najera; and his cherished dog, Santino. He is also survived by his mother, Evelia Najera; his siblings: Elma Najera (brother-in-law Antonino), Evelio Najera (sister-in-law Yolanda), Arnoldo Najera (sister-in-law Patty), Carlos Najera, and Amalio Najera; along with many nieces and nephews who loved him deeply.
Ubaldo will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
A visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home West, located at 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, KS, 67203, on January 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Prayer of the Holy Rosary will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2007 N. Arkansas Ave., Wichita, KS, 67203, on January 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church, at 11:30 AM on the same day. The committal service will immediately follow mass at Resurrection Cemetery, 1640 N. Maize Rd., Wichita, KS, 67212.
