Born March 5, 1929 in St. John Plantation, ME, Leona was the daughter of the late Louis and Gertrude (Lavasseur) Berube. Leona married her husband Lawrence in Maine and settled in Wolcott where she raised her family. She loved being a housewife and mother of her four children and later became a proud “Memere” and a great Memere. She and Lawrence moved to Palm Coast, FL for 10 years and then moved back to her hometown of Ft. Kent, ME. She enjoyed the visits from her children and grandchildren and in her spare time became an expert quilter and baker. She made countless trays of cookies for family and friends every Christmas. Lawrence passed in 2017 after 67 years of marriage. Leona then returned to Wolcott to be with her son Larry and her grandchildren.
When she lived in Wolcott, she was an active parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Church, that Lawrence actually helped build.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Thibodeau and wife AnnMarie of Wolcott, and Duane Thibodeau of Presque Isle, Maine; two brothers, Frederick Berube, Ralph and his wife, Marcia Berube, all of Maine; a sister, Alice O’Leary and her husband, Willie, of Maine; a sister-in-law, Violet Harvey of Maine; a brother-in-law, Leon Thibodeau of Florida; son-in-laws Yves Trottier of Naugatuck, and Louis Cavallo of Waterbury. Leona was Memere to Brian (Jodi) Trottier, Tammy (Eric) Jimmo, Joseph (Cindy) Thibodeau, Stacy (Ronald) Bouchard, David (Angela) Thibodeau, Jason and Nadine Trottier, Alan and Jessica Thibodeau, and Morgan Thibodeau. She also had ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Dolores Trottier and Linda Cavallo; a granddaughter, Melissa Trottier; two brothers, George and Joseph; and two sisters, Theresa and Rose.
Leona’s family would like to thank for the wonderful care given by Dr. Edmund Quinn and the exceptional care and attention given to her by the staff at Wolcott View Manor.
