In the early morning hours on Sunday, May 21, 2023, the Lord called our mother and grandmother back to him, thus ending a two year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Marsha was 78 and had resided with her daughter in Wolcott. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 8, 1945 and was the only child of the late Edward and Gladys (Barton) Purdy. Marsha retired from the State of New York as a social worker, a position in which she worked her way up from entry level to supervisor and a position in which she truly adored. During her retirement, Marsha loved to read her bible, spend time in prayer with the Lord, watch Anima and Asian movies with her family, solving puzzles, reading books which gave her a mountain of knowledge. She was also an amazing cook who invented her own Thanksgiving dish called Rice Stuffing, which now will be carried on being made by her loved ones. Marsha was a multi-talented woman who loved to sew and crochet. She was also a jokester and prankster, who loved to playfully tease her family. Marsha loved to sing and dance especially with her late bird Ceaser who she loved to talk to. She was a huge fan of Barry White and an even bigger fan of Häagen-Dazs Strawberry Ice Cream and any type of ginger ale. Marsha’s home was always open to anyone, whether if it was for a meal, advice or a safe place to stay. She will never be forgotten. Marsha is survived by her four children; Jessica Cooke (Joel) of Wolcott, Gladys Purdy of Florida, Michael Purdy and Mark Kevin Purdy both of New York. She was a beloved grandmother to Jazmine (Stephen), Justin (Shekinah), Michael (Nadesia), Sidney (Antoine), Armani (Farena), Jade(Dennis), Macio(Melody), Jillian, Julea and LaShonda. She was also a great-grandmother to Jayden, Antoine Jr., Milani, Liliana, Ellee, Finesse, Jalyn, Jakayla, Jaleel, Jabriel, Jael, Kevin, Jerry, Nia, Neo, Darrlyle, London, Daniel, Darrie, Jullisa-Brooklyn, Matthew Jr. and Great-great grandmother to Kyrie and one on the way. She is also survived by her Pug, Jett and her cat, Mya. Marsha was predeceased by two sons, Darryle and David Cooke, by a daughter in law, Dolores Purdy and grandchildren Marsha and Julisa. And A host of friends and family. A Celebration of Life for Marsha will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, CT 06716.
