

Maureen Mary (Scherr) Howell, age 79, a long-time and proud resident of Wolcott, Connecticut passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Beloved mother to three children; William, Jr (predeceased), James of Pennsylvania and Deborah of Connecticut leaving a void her family cannot fill. Maureen was born in Queens, NY on November 2, 1945, daughter of the late Harold and Margaret (Marionfeld) Scherr.
She married William G. Howell, Sr on August 29, 1964, and were together for over 40 years. She was a homemaker and mother first and returned to the workplace as an office assistant once her children were older. She was active in her church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years at St Mark’s in Islip NY. Long Island, specifically Greenport, was her happy place and brought her joy. Her passions included cooking, reading, music and most recently gardening, as she grew beautiful sunflowers in her yard this year. She enjoyed for many years watching “Days of our lives” since its inception, first with her mother and then years later with her daughter. Her biggest joy was her large family of seven siblings, three children and five grandchildren.
Maureen was a devoted mother to Bill, Jim and Debbie, who were her pride and joy. She always said they changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.
Maureen took special joy in not only her children and grandchildren but her siblings and all her 25 nephews and nieces and the fond memories of holidays at their home in Brentwood, NY, which became the center for all family events bringing everyone together.
Maureen was preceded in death by her husband Bill Howell, Sr, son Bill Howell, Jr, and her siblings Harold, Freddy, Theresa, Margaret and Norma and her sister-in-law Gail Ottman. She is survived by her son Jim Howell and his wife Elsa Dos Santos, daughter Debbie Price, daughter-in-law Renee Howell, brother-in-law Rolland “Dick” Ottman, grandchildren Nicholas W. Howell and his wife Lindsay, Kayla Howell, Ines Borges, Christopher James “CJ” Price (Eagle Scout) and Brandon Price (Eagle Scout), two sisters Illene Mclaughlin and Patty Schuette, and 25 nephews and nieces who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
A visitation for Maureen will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Road, Wolcott, CT 06716. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 12:00 noon at All Saints Episcopal Church 252 Boundline Road Wolcott, CT 06716. Burial will be in Florida at a later date at the convenience of the family.
