Ruby was a Registered Nurse for over 60 years, retiring from Bristol Hospital. She spent many years caring for countless patients and even after her retirement filled in for nurses during the holidays, so they could be with their families. In her younger years, she loved hiking, swimming and singing, which she continued into her later life as a member of the Sweet Adelines. She was an extremely talented crafter, enjoying knitting, quilting, crocheting and needlework. She was an adept seamstress, making clothes for herself and her loved ones, and costumes for the plays of her grandnephew Bryan Murphy. Having grown up on a working farm, she continued throughout her life as an avid gardener, canning her bounty at the end of each season. She loved to hunt for a great deal and would fastidiously scout for the best bargains at local tag sales, taking pride in her ability as a tough negotiator to get the lowest price for any treasures she found. She adored dogs, especially her Chihuahuas, fostering many over her lifetime.
