Masako Ishikawa Johnson was born on July 10, 1934 and raised in Hokkaido, Japan along with her sister and two brothers. In her younger adult years, she moved to Tokyo, where she met her husband, Howard of 51 years. Her sons can recall the countless times when she would consistently sacrifice her time and energy to make sure that the family was cared for. Despite scant financial resources, there was never, ever a time where we could claim there was lack of any necessary physical or emotional needs. Masako loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. Indeed, scores of her neighbors, friends and coworkers really loved her famous fried rice and egg rolls.
Volumes could be written to describe what Masako has meant to the people she’s encountered. Those finest points can best be succinctly expressed by her husband Howard who presented these thoughts to her on one of her birthdays:
To My Wife Masako,
Words could never thank you enough
for all that you mean to me,
for all that you have given,
and for who you’ve helped me to be.
No matter what may come our way,
or what life may put us through,
I’ll always find the strength to smile
by thinking thoughts of you.
So, on this special day,
this brings you all my love,
And a wish for every happiness
you’re so deserving of!
She will be sorely missed and survived by her sons: Howard Jr., Edward, Billy, Brian and Rickie, grand children: Erin, Cara, James Jr., David, Jeanette, Monique and Rafael, and great-grandchildren: Mavis, Cruz, Koda, Eliot and Zadie.
Her Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Kentucky Veteran Cemetery in Radcliff, Ky. Advantage Funeral Home – Hardy Chapel has been entrusted to handle Masako’s arrangements.
