Vernon was born on October 15, 1961 in Pasadena, Texas to Vernon and Mary Bowers. He was raised in Pasadena and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1980. Vernon was a multi-sport athlete excelling in baseball and football. He had his own cheer as he played quarterback for the Eagles and was lovingly known as “V the G”. He went on to receive a scholarship to play football at Texas Christian University.
As a young man he spent his summers working with his father building homes.
He began his career as a Budweiser delivery driver. Vernon later took a position as an operator at LyondellBasell where he spent the rest of his career and was awarded many promotions during his 30 year tenure.
In 1984, Vernon married Tammy Hogan in Deer Park, Texas where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Caitlin. During those years, Vernon travelled on many family vacations, to the girls’ softball tournaments, and on motorcycle rides with his friends. In 2003, Vernon and his family moved to Conroe, Texas.
Vernon was known for his fun personality and competitive spirit. His presence was large and his joy was contagious to all who knew him.
Vernon is preceded in death by his father Vernon Bowers and his brother Buster Bowers. He is survived by his mother Mary Bowers; daughters Jennifer Humphreys and husband Keith, Caitlin Krc and husband Thomas; and grandchildren Hallie and Jack Humphreys. He is also survived by his sisters, Debbie Bowers, Kimberly Bowers Lee and husband Scott, sister-in-law Brandy Tyler Bowers, numerous nieces and nephews, and his loving girlfriend Amanda Nabors.
