stay humble,
smile often,
stay loyal,
be honest,
travel when possible,
never stop learning,
love always.

These words describe the way Bob lived his life. He was born in London, Ontario, and raised in the Great Depression. Bob was one of the liberating troops in Holland in WWII, and married the love of his life, Mary Louise (Lou) Armstrong (nee Park) in 1955 in Sarnia, Ontario. Their three children were born there. He fulfilled a dream when he moved his family west to Vancouver in 1962 and ultimately to Nanaimo in 1963.
Bob loved to learn about anything and everything, and was particularly passionate about wildlife and the environment, fishing, playing bridge and cribbage, golfing, woodworking, gardening and his ever-growing family.
He was a familiar sight, along with Lou, at the ballpark, hockey arena, soccer field, swimming pool, dance recitals; anywhere they could cheer on their kids and grandkids. His standard reminder to "Be smart" will be carried on through generations.
Bob was known for his generous nature, curious mind, and loving heart.
He is remembered, loved and adored by his children: Gary (Kathryn) Armstrong, Janne (Grant) Arlt, Wanda (Vince) Vickers, and grandchildren: Wayne (Chelsea) Vickers, Heather (Lee) Kupiak, Jeff (Fallon) Vickers, Grant (Amanda) Vickers, Patrick (Michelle) Armstrong, Kathleen (Brian) Gregson, Megan (Amedeo) Del Fatti, Ben (Ashley) Arlt and 15 beautiful great-grandchildren.
