She was pre-deceased by Dean, her loving husband, in June 2001 and by their son, Randy, in December 2006. Valerie is survived by son Ken (Susan) now of Calgary and their daughters Marin in Calgary and Jessica in Vancouver, BC; Randy's daughters Krystal Korporal (Akech) with five great-grandchildren in Hanna, AB and Amber Lagace (Rob) with two great-grandchildren in Port Colborne, ON.
Valerie was born in Legend, Alberta and grew up on a farm in the Skiff/Legend area of Southern Alberta. After meeting and marrying Dean in Lethbridge, they moved first to Turner Valley, then to Calgary in 1955. Nana, as she was affectionately called by many, loved her forty-eight years with Dean - many happy memories were created square dancing and travelling North America in their trailer and "Fifth-Wheel" R.V. Her final residence was at the Manor Village Huntington Hills where she lived independently enjoying the comradery and company with many of her fellow residents. She unconditionally loved her sons, granddaughters and all her greatgrandchildren. Nana had a long life well-lived and will forever be remembered!
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral. Valerie's urn will be interred alongside Dean's at Queen's Park Cemetery. A family celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2021.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca/).
