My big brother Jimmy was my protector as he was 8 years older & watched over me.  If anyone threatened me at the playground I would tell them to stop or my “big brother” would get them. After I graduated high school he loaned me his beautiful blue ‘57 Ford Fairlaine car while he was overseas, imagine! I have always been so proud of him, such a good man with such a great family in Florida.  He will be missed more than I can say. ❤️

One of my earliest memories of Jim was when he owed me $3,000,000 dollars.  Jim, my other brother Gene and I would play Monopoly for hours during the summer---i got lucky one day and owned Boardwalk AND New York Ave--with hotels yet!! Jim kept landing on them and the debts piled up. He never paid--but we three had wonderful afternoons anyway. Jim and I lost touch for a few years, but reconnected during the last 5 years --and i'm so glad we did! we talked on the phone, e-mailed each other and Jim sent me several wooden pieces he had made. They are on my bookcase now and remind me of him. I miss you, Jim!

Jim was my oldest brother ... and my Godfather.   ❤️🙏🏼

When I was very young, he came home after being out on one of his naval assignments overseas.  He brought me back a tall, traditional, very ornate Chinese doll.  Oh, how I treasured that doll!  ... and still do its memory! 🥰

I am so happy and thankful that Jim had such a wonderful family in FL.  We didn't keep in touch as much as I wish we would've, but the bond of love was always there and always will be. 💖

Jim, Jeanette and I bowled together for many years. We had lots of good times! I moved away before the Fall  Season began but I kept up with texts and long distance calls. My deepest condolences to Jim’s family.   Sincerely, Sarah Brock 

I did not know Jim as well as my mother, Jeanette Steiner did, but when I think of Jim I see him smiling.  Any time I would visit my mother at the bowling alley, Jim would welcome me with a smile.  It is hard to believe he is gone.   Jim and my mom have spent many years bowling and laughing together.  I know the league, his team, and my mom will miss him dearly.  My condolences to his family and dear friends.

Jim and I have spent over 15 years as bowling teammates and friends.  As a teammate, Jim was competitive and therefore provided plenty of coaching and constructive criticism over the years.  As a friend, he was thoughtful and supportive.  He will be missed.

A GREAT "Bro" and Brother-in-Law.  Thank you for the many years of looking out for my Sis. 

Jim was a fun competitive bowling teammate, an amazingly talented woodcraftsman, and a special friend!

James is survived by his son, Anthony Wayne Varcados; daughter, Robin Kay Nichols and her husband, Thomas John Nichols III; brother, Daniel Espinosa; sisters: Irene Carlyle (Twin), Vikki Espinosa, Mary Goff and Rhea Engler; grandchildren: James Aron Varcados, T.J. (Chalsea) Nichols, Tyler Nichols, Tim Nichols and Adam Varcados; great-grandchildren: Kaydence Nichols and Teagan Nichols; and a host of extended family and friends.
