In the early morning hours Cornelius passed away surrounded by his loving family. Con led a life well-lived; full of love and hard work, while always managing to put a smile on everyone’s face. Our family is comforted knowing he will join the love of his life, Anna (2010), whom he missed every day, in Heaven.
Father of Jerry & Katrina. Grandfather to Chris McCullough, Taylor Papetti (Brett), Caitlin Castellani (Lucas), & Michael Rice (Tiffany). Great Grandfather to Aidan & Cameron Papetti and Hudson & Lucy Castellani. His sister, Lily Magee and brother-in-law, Brian Hillick survive Con in Belfast. Many other dear relatives in Toronto, Vancouver, Manchester, Belfast and Dublin will also miss him.
Con was born in Belfast, N. Ireland and lived through daily bombings during WW2. At the age of 25, he immigrated to Canada to establish a better life for himself and his family. He lived as a proud Irishman and a patriotic Canadian, always thankful for the opportunity he was given in “the land of milk and honey.”
He first established himself as a Professional Boxer at the Old Palace Pier Arena before joining the Toronto Hydro later that year. Con spent 35 years with the Toronto Hydro Underground, finishing his career as a well-loved Maintenance Foreman. Often Con would pick up extra jobs to provide for his children or those who needed help. He always spoke of his time at the Toronto Hydro and living in Don Mills as some of the best years of his life.
He is remembered as a quiet man who loved a good Irish jig and picking a “winner” at the Woodbine & Fort Erie racetracks. His love for family was his most defining characteristic, notably modelled in his love for his grandkids, Taylor and Michael, who he and Anna raised as their own.
Rest in Peace Dad
